    water in fuel- false alarm?

I have a 98 Johnson 150 ficht and for a few months the check engine light has been coming on intermittently i.e. sometimes on start up, sometimes it goes on then off then on all day, sometimes it doesn't come on at all. The code is water in fuel, I have drained the tank, replace both filters, replaced the sensor, cleaned the ecu connectors and left it in the sun for a couple of days to dry out. After coming to the conclusion that the ecu was faulty I drained the tank again and since then I must say the light has come on a lot less but still intermittently. How little water in fuel sets the alarm off? The alarm will come on even with the sensor disconnected which only leaves the brains. I have given this to the local dealer to think about but no reply, I have emailed DFI technologies but they won't answer, I'm quite happy to send the ecu across the planet to them. Apart from that the engine runs beautifully and I am very pleased with it.
    Any tips?
BTW on another subject I was reading on the forum that the transom filter should be before the primer bulb mine isn't and I always think the bulb is quite deflated when at cruise revs although I dont get any alarms and it runs ok. Is it possible this is setting off my alarm?

    Hey Mac3,
DFI does not reply to emails.Call them and ship your ECU module. It will set you straight. They will also do the software updates if needed, but brace yourself it wasn't cheap.I think it cost me almost $700.00 for that.I do have a spare ECU that I picked up from Ebay. That would be another option for ya.

    Good Luck.

Thanks Ed, I already worked out they don't reply to emails! Trouble is they only list a toll free number which doesn't work outside the U.S. I don't have a way of finding another number. I have checked ebay but have not been as fortunate as you so far.

DO NOT SWAP ECU OR EMM'S ON ANY EVINRUDE FUEL INJECTED MOTORS with out having the information in the ecu or emm changed to match your engine.
