    Fish Consumption Advisories Updated

    Copied from VDGIF:

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) has modified several existing fish consumption advisories and added three new advisories due to mercury and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) contamination. Recent test results show mercury and PCBs levels exceed the amount considered safe for long term human consumption. Mercury Advisories have been added or modified for the following water bodies:

--Rappahannock River Basin- Motts Run Reservoir and Chandlers Mill Pond (both new)
--Chowan and Dismal Swamp River Basin- Nottoway River (new), Blackwater River
--Roanoke River Basin- Roanoke (Staunton) River, Kerr Reservoir and Dan River

I know how bad PCB waste oil is but I can imagine it in the water much less the fish. Bad stuff there.........

tell us the rest of the story. With every advisory they always have a list of the type of fish not to eat. What are those fish

Site doesn't list any particular fish just gives these precautions:

VDH recommends the following precautions to reduce any potential harmful effects from eating contaminated fish:

Eat smaller, younger fish (within legal limits). Younger fish are less likely to contain harmful levels of contaminants than older, larger fish.
Remove the skin, the fat from the belly and top, and the internal organs before cooking the fish.
Bake, broil, or grill on an open rack to allow fats to drain away from the meat.
Discard the fats that cook out of the fish and avoid or reduce the amount of fish drippings or broth that are used to flavor the meal.
Eat less deep fried fish since frying seals contaminants into the fatty tissue.

Is this like catching VD from a toilet seat? Can I get PCB's from watching someone else weigh-in fish?

Well if you're saying that you never have any to weigh in yourself, and all you do is watch others weigh-in, you're probably safe.
