I have a 1998 115 Ficht with what I believe is low compression. Bottom two cylinders are 165 and top two are 100.
I cannot find my service manual just now. I hooked it up to the computer and found:
Total hours: 762
3 intermittent codes: 22 26 37
22 overheat at 677
26 battery voltage 18 events at 701
37 water in fuel 24 events at 533
I just returned from the FL Keys.
Trolled for two days about 4 hours each. Last day on return, motor died while slow trolling and would not run again. It cranks and fires but will not run. At times, I can get it to idle and will rev up but it just dies when pulling it back to idle.
It was getting dark, but I did a quick compression check. Bottom two cylinders are 165 and top two are 100.
Questions:
Is there a special compression check procedure for the Ficht?
Can I squirt some oil in the two low cylinders two check the rings?
Would buying one of those $300 bore scopes be usefull? I have a lot of old engines that I could use it for.
If the top two cylinders are blown is there a short block I could by or can you bore out and re piston the top two? Prices?
Thanks,
Joe Widmayer
