I am looking at a boat with a 1998 John 200 Venom.or
The carbs have been replaced with 225 carbs.
Has a Boysen Rad Valve w/ carbon fiber reeds.
He said the total H.P. would be around 250.
Need to know the compression that this motor should have.
When I go to pick it up I am going to do a compression test before I hand over the $$$$$$.
can you drive it??one of the best tests.....
comp # should be 95 and up
Run her on the muffs and get a cold and warm read on the compression. Post and let the mods know the results. Rule of thumb as long as they are in within 10% I think you are good. Maybe John, Fred or Seahorse can elaborate more. Good luck!

Correct but I don't think it is gonna push 250 HP unless there has been some porting done.
is it true that the only difference between the 1998 200 and 225 are the carbs?
I don't know how much HP the rad valve will help on a boat, but I know that It makes a hell of a difference on a motorcycle. (Been running one for years on my bikes)
Not so much on the reeds hardly noticable increase in HP the big difference is in the porting. Yes on a basic 200 puting 225 carbs on will give you 225 hp but not HO hp.
I don't know if any porting has been done.
He said that it will do 75M.P.H.
Has a hyd. jack plate and low water pick up.
Also including a Renegade 4 blade 23pitch prop for extra $$$
I know that this guy is a speed freak and that is the reason he is selling this Fish and Ski and going with a small Scarrab type boat.
I personally think he is speed happy... don't see a fish and ski goin 75 with the gps, but I have been wrong before!
I'm with you WD and Fred. I don't see that motor getting 250Hp with no more than that,or a F/S at 75mph!
Hopefully I will find out this weekend.
I will go by GPS and not Speedometer and get back with ya'll.
