NEED HELP PLEASE !! Lower Unit Removal 96 Intruder 150hp

Okay I have the prop removed, the air intake cover. Also had the lower unit bolts out but it wont budge. I think I know why.

I am going by the manual, it says to remove a retaining clip to the shift shaft rod and push it toward the power head ??? What in the hell ??? The picture in the book is so awful, black and white and dark I can't see anything. I took a picture of what I think it is.

This picture is toward the front of the motor, in the middle. Is this right ?? Please help I am in the middle of this and hate to take it to the shop when I know once its removed all I have to do is replace the impeller.

    Clip ????

Well thank God I have the right thing to look at.

Im sorry for my lack of knowledge on this, but as the photo shows, pull the pin out? Then slide the rod the pin was thru to the left meaning theport side? And what bolt ?

The brass one towards the right of the picture ? Or over towards the left on that arm ?

Again, sorry for my lack of understanding. I just feel I'm so close to getting to the impeller. And thanks for your help.

Remove this 10mm bolt completely and the block will slide off!

That is NOT a 10mm bolt and it does not need to be removed.

Just shift into fwd. gear and after pulling the "hair-pin clip", push the lever and shaft toward the center of the motor. The clevis (part with the bolt) moves aside and releases the shift shaft.

Be careful that the shaft does not turn as you pull the gearcase and replace it. The length from the gearcase mating surface to the center of the hole is critical to correct shifting and gear engagement. Follow a service manual for the correct procedures.

I will have to try that next time, I have always removed the bolt and block same results but that looks alot quicker and easier. And on mine that is a 10mm, the head is!
Definitely do not let shift shaft turn!!! I found that out the hard way while talking on the phone twisting the tar out of it at the next tournament!

I understand what the shift shaft is, Basically the rod the hair clip pin is thru, but what lever are you and the book referring too?

And how do I keep the shaft from turning ? Just be careful? Or put vice grips on it or something ??

When you drop the lower unit assembly, that shift rod will be part of it. DO NOT disturb it while replacing the impeller assembly. Otherwise, as SH stated, you will have to refer to your manual to properly adjust it.

Although your FastStrike/Intruder clevis is different, you can go here for further assistance: http://www.bassboatcentral.com/johnrudetips.htm

That lever that has the hitch pin is the shift linkage arm. The shift rod sits in the groove between the 7/16" head bolt directly behind it. When you remove the clip, you can slide the linkage to the left and release the pin that holds the shift rod. Just make sure you don't spin the rod around in circles. Keep the bend facing forward at all times.
