adjusting low end idle adjustment screws

Have a 2001 Johnson 150 carb motor and mechanic looked at plugs the other day and said they looked as if engine was running lean. Boat doesn't want to come out of hole after few hours of fishing and bogs and dies while try to load on trailer. If I were to screw all idle scres completely in what would be the ideal place to back them out to? Five full turns or something like that. Or all motors different?

These screws are the allenhead screws on the port side of each carb? which way do you turn them? and if you do start from scratch and bottom them out, how much do you back them out?

try 6 turns out if it is at 5 now, you may have to experiment a bit and go to 6 1/2 or even 7 in some cases. The best thing is to start the motor up and let it idle for a few minutes before taking off to stabliize the carb temperatures.
