115 Evinrude Intruder

Not a mechanic but here is what I was told the problem with my motor is. They said that I broke a reed? Said that the reed box was scared up from a screw or bolt that got in there and had been causing damage to the box for sometime. Evidently I threw the screw through the exhaust or it is still in the piston. Anyone ever heard of this? If I replace the reed and reed box will I be ok? I am disturbed that we can't locate the screw. If it is in the piston I am in trouble right? Just a matter of time before she blows? Opinions?

I'm not LockJaw but I would bet he would want to see what kind of motor you have and especially the model #.

1996 V4 Evinrude Intruder. The piece of reed that broke off is gone as well.

You can replace the reeds and block no problem the screw has probably gone out the exhaust port by now. To be safe pull the heads and look for any scaring in the cylinders.
