ETEC 225HO propshaft & Merc Flo-Torq bushing question

I've got an 05 ETEC 225HO. Recently had a new prop shaft put on. Long story ... anyway, with the new prop shaft, I've been running a 26 Raker II. But I'd been wanting to try a Merc Fury. Got a loaner from a local store and bought a hub kit. I also bought me one of the 'bushing' for the prop (separate from the Flo-Torq Kit) ... it's a small insert for the Flo-Torq kit that goes on one end of the plastic square peg looking thing (hub) and fits between that and the thrust washer.



Well that bushing doesn't fit all the way down to the thrust washer. I pulled out the one from my old Tempest; which I had had used on the same motor prior to having the shaft replaces ... and sure enough, that didn't fit either! Goes down about 2/3 of the way and the shaft flare's out and the bushing stops ... don't go any further!

Long winded question is .... did they give me the wrong prop shaft or did I get the wrong bushing?!

OK ... I got hold of Mercury and they told me for my motor, I don't need that bushing. They don't make these bushing for the ETEC motors. That even without the bushing the thrust washer will seat onto the prop and stabilize it without problems. Is this consistent with what you all do with the ETEC and Merc props using the Flo-Torq hubs??
