FISH KILL at Amistad.

I know it's every license holders right to keep and clean as many fish as the law will allow.
But I wonder how long this magnificent fishery can hold up to the numbers of fish being put under the knife.
We just got back from a 4 day trip and I can honestly say I was saddened by the line at the fish cleaning station. At first I thought they were mostly Stripers and Catfish. Boy was I wrong
I noticed the same boat there 3 days in a row. there were 4 guys and they had a mountain of fillets every time.
I have fished this great lake for over 10 years now. and there has always been a lot of fish taken, especially in the winter.......But nothing like it's seeing now after ESPN
Guess that's one way to take the pressure off a lake----take all the fish out of the lake.

You know, Everytime I have been I have seen some people filleting bass in the evenings. In Feb I was amazed at some of the nets being brought to the cleaning station. Now this has been going on for years. Yet this lake just keeps producing. So the lake has been handling this pressure very well for many years, and most likely will keep handling it very well. Its one of the "hottest" bass lakes.

I have always been a propponent that removing fish will actually improve some fisheries.

At OH Ivie and Alan Henry where the limit is that 3 of your 5 large mouth must be over 18". The fishermen are encouraged to keep the 2 under 18" they may catch. There is no minimum length limit on them. TPWD says there are too many juvenile fish in the lakes. MLL for small mouth and spots on these lakes are 18"

It is good to take some fish out of the lake. I remember when yo couldn't catch a decent fish in Lake Fork because the smaller ones got your bait before the big ones had a chance.

True and true------------Some fisheries------the only things that could hurt this big lake now is a huge draw down...........or presure and fish kill either inflicted by man or nature.

However like I said above they have been removing a lot of fish for the ten years I have fished the lake, but nothing compared to what they are doing NOW
Im a little concerned when there is a waiting LINE to use a fish cleaning station that can accommodate at least 5 people at once.
For 8 of the last ten years you might not see 3 trailers in the parking lot during the week in Feb. maybe a dozen on a week end. Now your lucky to get a parking spot on the weekend if your not there at daylight with out parking in the overflow area.
Time will be the judge, in a few years when all those same folks who say awwww it helps the lake. Start whining about they can't catch fish.

fishnfireman, i have also noticed the cleaning table waiting lines!! my problem is NOT that they are cleaning bass...(i love to eat them too) but that MOST of the bass i've seen were 4 to 7 lbs!!!!!!!!!!! this lake is absolutly full of 13 to 15in bass and could handle a ten fish a day limit IF it were limited to smaller fish. it would create big problems (tourneys) to put a slot on this lake but with what iv'e seen the last three years i might supprt it!
