First post here, so I'll start by apologizing for not having the model / serial number as the motor is currently in the shop.
Bought a previously owned boat and motor from a dealer on May 2.
Equipted with a FICHT 115 1999 motor, on the water test it seemed a litle sluggish, (non-Johnson) dealer responded that they had serviced the motor and checked the compession and all was good. On further outings the boat still seemed sluggish, but would eventually get up to full speed and seemed to run OK.
I was a little nervous about the motor and had it booked in for a full service and impeller change at a Johnson dealership for June 23. (It took 3 weeks to get the appointment as this is busy boating season here in Ottawa).
I received a call from the service tech, very worried that one cylinder was 20lbs down and they suspected a scored cylinder.
I discussed this with the store I got the boat from and they wanted it back for their tech to take another look.
They said that there was nothing wrong with the compression, but had carried on looking at the motor and confirmed a scored cylinder.
They broke down the head and then sent the package to a third dealer (Local Johnson EXPERT) for analysis and repair. After a week they said that the cause of the problem was a blown injector which had scored the barrel. They would be performing a rebore and would rebuild the motor and get it back to me, hopefully by July 25.
I asked if they were covering the cost, and have been told that it was probably my fault, but they may consider splitting some of the cost with me.
I've opwned various boats and motors over the last 10 years without issues, especially not when buying from a dealer.
I'm concerned that the expert found low comporession, but my dealer didn't.
What could I have done to cause an injector to blow?
Does any of this sound plausable?
Advice appreciated. Thanks
