2003 225HO Suddenly Lost Power

So, I was at the lake carrying a teen out for a youth tournament and the boat was running great when I went to set her down in the back of a pocket. As soon as she came down to idle I noticed she was kind of "skipping" and when I went to get back on plane it took FOREVER!!!

My guess was a blown cylinder but I thought I would ask you guys to see if there are things I can check here before carrying her to the shop.

Rule #1, give us your model / serial #. I take it you did not get an alarm or light on your system check gage. Fuel restriction or fuel lift pump may be the problem, or as you say you have lost a cylinder. You could pull the plugs and look to see if any have the signs of metal on them. of course a compression check would tell you a lot.

Sorry, I did not know they made more than one 225HO model engine in 2003.

Oh, and there were no indications from any of the warning lights on the dash when this happened. It just started acting this way with no warnings at all.

Any help you guys could offer would be great.

Could be several different things. Mine did something similar to yours this spring, turned out that a reed broke looses and lodged in the intake. Lost power, could not get up on plane. It seems a couple of bolts backed loose and the reed assembly came apart.No serious damage, but thank goodness for and extended warranty.

Same thing happened to my dad and it truned out to be and injector.

Let me give you an idea, happen to me on an a 95 merc efi, god I hate Mercs, anyways. I was running for about 25 minutes at Lake Mead, Nv and out of nowhere with no alarms the motor started to bog down and bogged all the way down to plowing water not being able to get back on plane. Then after about 3 too 6 minutes of going slow with trim down it would get back on plane and do it all over again so I pulled over in to a cove and shut her down fished for 30 minutes and left getting right back on plane then did it again so I pulled off cowling the lower cowlings and saw lower cowlings were full of water. So, what happened was the water was sloshing to the front of the motor and going into the throats of the intake and bogging down the engine. I cant believe it didnt seize or foul a plug. After running down the lake w/no cowling I could see a water line squirting water out of a small pin hole from the driver seats. So could be something that stupid!
