The packs can be tested using a DVA and a multimeter. It's an adapter that allows you to read peak voltage. You can also check thru the packs and out the coils.

Fireman-bob has a 2001 Mercury 225 EFI, was running his boat the other day and couldn't get over 5000rpm's, found out his stator was out and his alternator was out, mechanic said it would rob power from the power packs and caused his to lose the rpms, also said it could lead to causing the power packs to go bad. It's costing him bout $500 for a new stator and to rebuild alternator.

i had a poer pack go on mine last year but had alarms going off as soon as the motor fired up, could be that bearing in the lower as well. when you hit that tree, a bearing siezing up can cause all of your explained problems, sometimes getting up and somettimes not, believe or not a bad bearing can free up and sieze up at will but when they decide to seize up at 5 grand not a good out come for the rest of you motor

Re: Any Motor Doctors in here? (DLaborde)

Well guys i got LUCKY!!!!!! Compression check 130 on all cylinders! Spark to all cylinders, and good fuel pressure at the pump. MY mechanic was kind of floored but took it to the lake today to see for himself, after 10 minutes of messing with i dont know what! It hits him and he looks at me and says watch this, cranks on some bolt on the motor and BAM she jumps out the Hole like a scalded dog! When i hit that tree in the river it jarred my timing! No timing light so put it back on the trailer and hes gonna set it at the shop tommorrow and check it at diff rpm ranges on the water friday! All this HOOPLA and it just needed to be re TIMED! the ole SKEETER will be flyin again by the Weekend! JUst wanted to update all yall that gave me suggestions.
