That S$$KS, that just about rules out fishing Griffin and the Oklawaha river. I would think including the lock time that could be an hour to a hour and a half transit time.

There sure is. Right on 441 across from the orange juice plant. There is an old locomotive there on display also.

John, I dont think the canal to from Lake Carlton over to Lake Ola is passable any longer? (I belive that's the canal we were trying to find, right AJ?) But it's all grown over and is only maybe 2-3 feet wide now??

Guys, if anyone plans to head to the Apopka Canal, via Lk. Beauclair (this may be old news) but look out for the marker bouys about 2-300 yards out from the entrance.. There marking a sand bar or something.. Markers say "Danger shallow water" and we got as close as we could (to see what they said) and it was down to 1.5' feett.. There's also another line of markers just outside the entrance marking the same thing..

It's been quite a while since I was through that canal, but I did know it was a skinny one!!

Ed, another problem with going through the locks on Haines Creek, is the guys that lock you through. They're very thin skinned, and really don't like anyone hitting the call buzzer more than once.
They are known to just sit and let the fishermen get good and p'od, and late before getting up to lock you through.

    Re: (George)

Ah, so true... I have had my moments in that lock not with any of the guys but with that b$tch that runs it too.
I could understand getting upset if some one just sat there ringing and ringing the buzzer, I might make them wait awhile also.
