JAVELIN RENEGADE 20 STEARING TORGUE? HARD STEARING

I HAVE A 1999 JAVELIN RENEGADE 20 WITH JOHNSON 225 H.O. HAS HYDRO STEARING. TURNS FINE WHEN NOT AT HIGH SPEEDS, WHEN TRIMMED OUT, WILL TURN EASY TO THE RIGHT BUT IS STIFF TO THE LEFT. DOES THE TRIM TAB NEED ADJUSTING? WHICH WAY DO I START MOVING IT? IT TRACKS AS STRAIGHT AS AN ARROW BUT STIFF TURNING LEFT. THANKS

The stiffness you'll feeling is the thrust of the prop. The trim tab on the lu won't make a difference on a 225 hp motor.
    Mine does the same.

Hydraulic steering will correct you problems but will cost you nearly $1,000. A cheap remedy is to install a torque tab. They are typically aluminum and you install it on the side of your skeg. A torque tab cost about $15 and will eliminate about 75% of the torque you are feeling. You can get these at any boat dealership.

REALLY unusual to get feedback like that through your hydraulic steering. Something may not be right there. However, the torque tab (t-h marine) will eliminate a good deal of torque on the motor and could solve your problem.

Your prop could probably use a good work over by Mark Croxton and he can get rid of most of that steering torque...Mine has some in it when running full out, but not enough to really hurt anything..It was not there until I found a stump with the prop and think I hurt it a little...

    What prop are you running?..

Have you tried working on the set-up any?..It could need a little height adjustment to get rid of some of it...

A torque tab is a quick fix, but you should be able to control it in other ways than having to add a torque tab...
