Any reason why I can't stripp off the paint on the lower unit and leave it?
I'm tired of the chips here and there. I want all the paint off so I won't have to worry about it.
Anyone else done this?

Personally would not recommend it as the paint protects the metal from corrosion etc. It is not a big job to refinish the lower unit. if you use in brackish or salt water, I definately would not leave it bare
