Help needed again... Lean sneeze again !!!!

Here I go again with the lean sneeze problem. I put kits in the carbs and set the mix screw at 3 1/2 turns and it is still sneezing. Bail me out again guys with some ideas to fix this thing before I to take a hammer to it. The motor is a 1995 Johnson 225 Venom.

Thanks in advance for the knowledge.

I had them set at 5 turns before I put the kits in and looked in the book and it had 2 1/2, so I figured I could find a happy medium between 2 1/2 and 5 but not with my luck. I 'll move'em back out to 5 if that will help.

Since I disconnected the VRO, will this have any effect on the carbs as far as idle mixture?

I did order a 74D jet for the #2 cyl. also

    Thanks,
    CM

The initial setting is 2 1/2, make sure the throttle plates are all closed.
Check the cylinder head temp, it should be around 140 to 160 degrees.

Checked the plates and they are opening and closing good. What else can it be? I'm starting to get frustrated with this engine. What's the scoop on the drain plugs with the nipples?
Will the float levels effect the sneeze? Just fishin for answers

    Thanks for your help men!

I'll check em in the a.m. on-duty tonight. Anything else to look for that would cause it to sneeze?

    Thanks

    Re: (Mudcat27)

If its a lean sneeze, you are getting to much air, broken recirc line, carbs not adjusted right, throttle plate standing open, Cylinder head temp incorrect, low speed emulsion tubes not cleaned properly......ect.

    Re: (RUSTY63)

    Rusty,
Saturday when i was started the boat on the hose I noticed that the right side head (facing the carbs) didn't heat up as quick as the left. Is this normal or I am I on to something here?

That head will be a bit slower to warm up. once the motor reaches operating temp, that's when you need to know how warm the heads are.

    Re: (RUSTY63)

Yeah it seemed to be a little slower but after a little bit they warmed up good. I'll get the temp readings. I also found out that I have to replace the rectifier on this motor after a long day at a tourney. Got ready to fire the motor up and run to the weigh-in and the battery was dead. I'm looking through the shop manual now to get more ideas on what's causing me this headache. I've got to get this motor right because I'm getting tired of hearing my partner brag about his "MERC" and how reliable it is. Makes me want to leave a man overboard.

Thanks for all the knowledge again.

If a recirc line is broke, there will be fuel running down the sides of the block.
