    Johnson Carb guru's

I have a 2001 Johnson 225 ho with a 26p custom worked raker on a 2003 Bullet 21 xdc Bullet, I turn 6000 rpm to run 74 mph loaded 2 people full gear full fuel, breaking a cowl high rooster at about 10 to 14 psi water depending on chop. Am i turning to many rpm for this motor? Its been doing it since it was new should I start to slow down? is doom on the horizon?lol any body know the rpms for this motor? Biik says 5800 to 6200 wot I think. Oh yea and what ratio is in tthe Lightning gear case I believe that is what came on that year.. silver in color.

You are about tuned out as best you can go. I sure would love to see some more H20 pressure at the head more towards 18 is where I like them. If you could drop down 1/4-1/2" and change the pitch on the prop up one you should be good. Worst case go up .002 on # 2 carb HS jet to help with cooling. Check your plug burn colors too.

I've seen the 27 Gade work good on those engines. JMHO

RPM range on those is 5 to 6k I believe. Limiter is set at 6700 +-.

If you can pull it to 6k easy loaded, I would go up in pitch a little. I like the gades, and also the TR04's.

    Re: Johnson Carb guru's (Lockjaw)

My mech said the renegade would be a better choice for me also I just hate to scrap another prop... the 4 blade would be better, If I go from 3 to 4 blade I lose 200 rpm right?? asuming this right as 27 four blade is like a 28 3 blade??? Im really ok with the speed but I would like the rpm lower at that speed maybe about 2 to 400 rpm less. 70 to 74 is cool with me I aint the fastest but Im still shaggin and baggin, over most in my area. I just wish the spanelli wasnt such a turn to plane... the raker is a 14.5 x26 the spinelli is like a 13.5x27 the 13.5 I guess blowes out around the hub to the outside before planing and you got to let out and hammer on till it breaks over..

I have a gade that runs almost the same rpms as my raker. I haven't had a chance to run the gade since raising the motor up. I'd say the raker might have gave me 100 more rpms. I'm running 300 more rpms since raising the motor up, and once I get my lu I am going to put the gade back on to see what it does.
Hole shot is better with the raker on my boat because of the vent holes. Gade stays on plane at slower speeds and corners a whole lot better.

on my rig the difference between the two is negligble in wot runs, I might squeak a little more outta tha Raker, the Gade helps with the heavier loads and stability @wot. JMHO
