what rpms

i have a 2000 150 fitch.what is the best rpms to run it at? it currently is running about 5000.im thinking about changing the prop to get some more rpms .i dont think that its achieving its full potential. one other thing why are these motors getting a bad rap i went to see about trading my boat in for a new one and the sales man said hed would have givin me more if it had something different on the back

55-5800, it is important to prop it to the higher rpm even tho you probably won't be WOT all the tim .Right now you are "lugging" the motor down.
