    Another Rookie Question ????

I have an '85 Champ 17'. In the front you have the trolling plug and switches etc. There is a switch for 12/24, 12v and charge 12. What does this mean? How does my trolling battery get charged or does it from the other battery and how??? What is 12/24v switch for?

The 12/24 switch is for switching back and forth from 12 to 24 volts. If you have a 24 volt troller, just leave it on 24. I don't know what the 12 charge is for, but someone will. It's likely that you have the old 4 wire setup. If you have 2 wires going to each battery, make sure you unplug the trolling motor from the big socket before you plug in the charger or you will burn out the plug. If you just have the little jumper wire that connects the pos on one battery to the neg on the other you can leave the troller plugged in.

You should have an on board charger that you just plug in to the wall in your house or garage.

Do you mean running 2 batteries for the troller? I'm only running one battery for the troller and one for the motor and boat. Does my main boat battery chaarge the troller battery? On the troller battery side i do have an extra set of wires but dont know where they go. I'm only running one troller. what charges it?

Hopefully someone who has your boat will jump on and help you. All I know is your going to have to charge those batteries somehow. You won't be running your big motor enough to get it done. If all you have is 1 troller battery then you need to set your 12/24 switch to 12. If you have to buy a charger, get a Dual Pro. They are the best.

the charge run pannel is a thing of the past . the charge side of switch was for plugiing a non onboard charger into it that had the same plug on it as your troller. now a days onboard chargers are the chit, or just charge directly at battery.

If you have one battery for your trolling motor you have a 12 volt set . I would say that your outboard is only charging its battery that runs all else on your boat. The second set of wires is most likely for a second battery for a 24 volt trolling motor. Look at the trolling motor it will say 12 or 24 volt. In any case error on the side of safety and unplup your trolling motor before charging. Hope this helps out some.

PS If you have an on board charger you should have a plug somewhere to plug into the wall outlet. If you don't get yourself a good battery tender charger.

This is correct. My 1990 had the same set-up. I took a conventional, portable charger and cut off the standard plug and added one which fit the panel receptacle. It charged both my TM batteries, but obviously not the cranking battery.
