    Rookie question

This is definitely a rookie question, but I want to make sure I understand exactly how the oil injection system on my Mariner 150 EFI works. Am I correct in saying that only the reservoir in the boat needs filled with oil? Then that oil is injected into the oil reservoir on the motor? Just want to make sure I avoid a moment.

ahhhhhh...pretty sure you need to have the one under the cowl FULL all the time and add to the on board as needed.

Assuming the tank on the engine has oil in it then you only need to add oil to the remote tank on the boat. Merc/mariner uses a vacuum process to move the oil from the remote tank to the engine tank so make sure the lid for the remote tank is fastened well.

It wouldn't hurt to check your cap on the motor mounted resivoir for stress marks or cracks either , I have a 1995 150 mariner EFI and I made a run in a tournament one day shut down then tried to start back up it would not start and I had oil coming out of my cowling! It will scare you and you would think it popped the motor but what really happened was that little cap broke on top and oil got everywhere on my very clean motor! Just a thought.

    Re: Rookie question (ChampioN24)

I checked both caps, the one under cowl and the onboard tank and all caps look good to me. The cowl reservoir was full with fresh, good looking oil when I checked last night. I made sure to tighten the cap down real good. Added about a half gallon or so to the reserve tank and again tightened the cap down very snug. Everything is ready to go, I plan on taking it to the lake tonight!!

Be careful to over tighten the small one on the engine... They do and will develop hair-line cracks in them that are hard to see, thus allowing air into the vacuum system... Ask me how I know this
