97 191 DCX transom sits low in the water is it correct

Hello to all and thanks for the use of the board, I recently aquired a 191 DCX with a 8" Rite Hite Manual jack plate. Mercury 200 EFI. This is my third champion and this one is the first with a Jack Plate. The splash well has a plug that allows the water to run out the bottom, that again a first for me and Champions.

    The question is two fold,

    1. I have to feather the throttle to keep water from coming over the back.
    2. When standing in the back of the boat the water nearly comes over the top of the transome ( splash well area) 2 people in the back it is over the meatl end caps that hold the guard rail in place.

Is this normal? Transome is sealed well, the Bow of this rig does sit high in the water as well. Your thoughts?

    Mark

normal as long as the boat is not taking in any water. IE, leaky livewell lines, etc....

The rear tank Champs typically sit a little stern low. If I remember, the later 191s may have a larger tank than the earlier ones too. Add an 8" jack plate and that lengthens the moment behind the CG. That compounds the issue. These Champs also have had back wash problems if you just shut down from being on pad. I typically trim all the way back down from cruise trim and ease off the throttle.

    Welcome!!!!! Glad you joined us!

Feathering the throttle or goosing it slightly as you come off plane is normal....especially for the rear tank Champs. I still need to do it as a habit on my 05....I have been known to get overwash more than once, when I was not paying attrention...

Howdy, I have a 98 191 elite that I put a 200 opti on two summers ago, it also sits lower in the water than it did with the old EFI. Your jack plate is probably the reason for yours sitting that way. You will get used to it and the water still does,nt come over the transom as bad as some of the other brands do. Make absolutly certain the your bolt holes are sealed and probably do it once every two years. I had to have a new transom put in mine this year as the outfit that hung the OPTI on did'nt put new sealer in the holes! All together though it is a great boat and a great ride. Also fits straight in my 24' garage
