Question GLoomis Wild Card Warranty - Fort Worth

Does anyone know of a retailer in Fort Worth that will honor the G.Loomis wild card warranty? I have an NRX rod where the reel seat came apart and neither Cabelas (which is where I purchased the rod) nor APT will honor the warranty exchange. G.Loomis recommended shipping back to them as it will be covered under their regular warranty, but I would rather not pay the $25 shipping plus their $20 processing fee to get it replaced when it should be free with the over the counter exchange.

I'm not sure what the point of the Wild Card Warranty is if their retailers will not honor it and unfortunately I have a decent sized stack of the warranty cards that I've never used.

Wouldn't you think that Loomis would require a retailer who sells their rods to honor their over the counter warranty? Did you talk to a manager at Cabelas or just a clerk?

Send the rod into GLoomis for the warranty and save the Wildcard for when you actually need it. If you use the Wildcard for this warranty issue, you are saving the shipping charge but losing the retail value of the rod.

The Wildcard should not be used for warranty issues. It is a one-time-use no-fault replacement policy. You use it when you are responsible for the rod damage. As an example, if you accidentally break the tip of the rod in the car door, then you use the Wildcard.

You would think they would require their dealers to honor it. A regional manager was the one at Cabela's that handled it. He said he called G.Loomis and G.Loomis recommended taking it to another retailer.

I would rather not have to pay $45 to send it to G.Loomis when I should be able to have it replaced for free over the counter. I don't see how what type of damage the rod has matters.

Reel seat separation is a known manufacturing defect with some NRX rods. The wild card is designed to be used when you break the rod and it's your own fault as mentioned above. It's a one time, once per rod, replacement. Your issue is a manufacturers defect and will therefore be covered under the warranty. Obviously, you can use the wild card for any reason you like, if you could only get your dealer to honor it! I'm really surprised that Cabelas won't accept the wild card considering that you purchased the rod from them and they're Loomis dealers, that's very bad form on their part. The Tackle Trap honors wild cards from customers who've purchased rods from us no questions asked...

I can assure you that I won't be purchasing any more rods from Cabela's after they denied honoring the warranty and probably won't be purchasing any other new Loomis rods since none of their local dealers will honor the Wild Card.

Definitely a lesson learned on this one!

Understood. If you like high end rods and don't want to buy any more Loomis, let me tell you about Megabass rods sometime

On a side note, I've forwarded your situation to a contact I have at Shimano. Hopefully he will be able to help you out with this situation. It's really bad all the way around...

I completely understand you feeling you shouldn't have to pay GLoomis for a defect in manufacturing. I'm not disputing that in any way or form. My only purpose was to point out the potential $$ lost if you used the Wildcard for something that is clearly a manufacturing defect.

Using the same example I posted before, if you break the rod by shutting a car door on it, it will not qualify for a warranty repair or replacement. Assuming you had a cooperative dealer, using the Wildcard, you'd get a brand new rod without paying any money. If you did not have the Wildcard, you would need to buy a new rod from a retailer. NRX rods start at about $400.........

As Gary said, it is completely up to you how you choose to use the Wildcard.

Call Loomis tell them u have the reel seat problem -they will send you a fed ex label -put in tube mail then give them the tracking # and after they see it in transit they will ship u a new rod. At least that is what they did for me. You should not use your card for a reel seat defect. BTW tell them Cabelas won't honor their warranty system!

Agree that you should contact ShimLoomis about this. As mentioned, it is a well known issue/defect on the NRX and they should take care of you, hopefully including free shipping and waiving of the $20 fee.

The whole Wildcard deal sounds a lot better on paper than it actually is, as you're finding out. It's nice to have it and all, but you have to learn all the in's and out's of it. For example, the letter they send you with the card specifically says the Wildcard can NOT be used for sending the rod to Loomis, only to be used at an authorized dealer. Yet, ShimLoomis will take them if you send them in. Weird.
