My buddy has an Evinrude 48 special, mid 90's and I do not know the #'s. Something broke in the lower unit, I think one of the gears. Do you need a special tool to remove the prop shaft and gear set from the lower housing?

Not really, you can get it apart without special tools, just don't try too put it back together.
Guess he better take it and have it fixed. They dont like it when you take it apart and then haul it in
Most dealers do like it....They Charge MORE to put it back together...

He is going to get his year and model number and call you, not sure when. If it will fit his motor I think he wants it. Probably will pick it up though, we are not that far from Fairfax, Va.
