I use a figure 8 knot cause it can be untied easier than a granny after it's been tugged on a lot

Main thing on troll ropes is to get a non-std one...some rope materials can last 10 years or more while others pop every other year...been there...a buddy gave me some sort of rope...says his lasted 8 years so far! Parachute or something.
I keep a spare nylon ordinary material one with the ends burned inside a plastic jar in the boat...saves a buddy when his pops in the dark before blastoff...36 inches is plenty.

Try a sheep shank, french bowline, or monkey's fist..........

I just stick with the ol granny myself tho. And no need to untie, a sharp knife will take care of that for you.

Use nylon coated stainless cord and some ferrell fittings and it will not break JMHO

Guys,if your around anyone who has game roosters tied up,ask them about the rooster tie-off cord...It's tougher than woodpecker lips.. A friend gave me one of them and its a little stiff but does the job great...It's the same size as the cord that comes on most trolling motors...They come with a metal washer already on them and its fastened to end of cord..That end is used for the handle end.. Its tough to tie a knot in but, it can be tied in a knot..Last for years !!!! The local hardware store here sells them...

Head to an EMS or REI and get some climbing gear rope. Been using that for two years now without break issues, and you can get it in lots of colors to match your boat if that is your thing.

I looked at videos of the Granny knot and can't see how you could tie that knot in that little place where the release bar is!! It also shows two ends being tied together!!!
