    Indexing Spark Plugs?

Okay, now that you guys have helped me find the right plug and the right gap size for my 2003 225HO I have another question. I keep hearing people talk about being sure to "index" the spark plugs. I assume that means I need the contact arm on the plug to be in a particular location. Is that correct? On my engine does that arm need to be (in relation to the boat) to the front, back, top or bottom?

Thanks in advance for your help.

It is in reference to the injector. When you remove the plug from the box take a black magic marker and put a line on the ceramic directly above the gap, when you install the plug you want the line to be as close as possible to facing the injector. If it won't line up on that cylinder try it on another one they will all match up. You want the line within 90* of the injector.

get ready for some aggrevation in this process. Ive spent over $200.00 to index my motors. And I just talked to a friend of mine with brand new e-tecs and he is having same problems. He said the motors are great except that you burn through plugs every 50 hrs.and that gets pretty expensive when you not only have to buy the plugs ,but then need to buy so many extra to get the indexing right.

If you really feel you have a problem with your motor and plug usage, contact BRP customer service and ask to talk to Tech support on your issue, if you do not feel that you are getting satisfactory answers from your local dealer. They will love to hear from you.

The dealer I take my boat to says ignore the torque spec and tighten them till your within 90 deg of either side of the injector. He said he got this advice direct from the rep and that the head was thick enough that there is no danger of stripping threads out. The only problem I've encountered is breaking the plugs upon removal which I understand is fairly common.

I'm sorry, but I will listen to the gurus here and they ALL say watch torque specs. I've never broke one off in my motor and i've never used more than 8 ,only that cause i'm a little picky. JMHO I will say this, I have stripped em out and the helicoils, etc aren't what they are cracked up to be in this application. Again JMHO
