Re: Sho Owners Cost for 20 Hour Check (wthom12)

I just called my dealer and they said $375.

I said, "well I already changed the oil and the gear lube." So they gave me a $45 credit, and now it's only $330. What else do they do for all that moola?

Re: Sho Owners Cost for 20 Hour Check (wthom12)

Yea when mine started smoking from an overflowing dipstick at 7 hours, the dealer wanted $140 to change the oil. I fussed. They called Yamaha. Yamaha denied the opportunity to cover it. In the end the dealer worked with me and only asked for $80 for the oil change.

Funny, our Yamaha reps must have been the same as we don't live far from one another. This rep told the dealer that the SHO hasn't been making oil, and that I need to not believe what I read on line.

Man, I can understand paying for an oil change but seems like any checkups needed under warranty should be covered by the warranty,,guess not. Looks like a couple of the pro's had issues the other day with theirs.

Steve, you talked them down from $140 to an $80 oil change yet they are only giving you a $45 credit because the oil change is complete on your $375 20 hr check??

Sounds like racket to me fella's!

Re: Sho Owners Cost for 20 Hour Check (Cowoty)

I think I paid around 180 for the 20hr including the oil change and they went ahead and took care of the tsb's that were outstanding on my motor while it was there. I think 375 is ridiculous for the 20hr, other than the oil change and greasing I think most of the things supposed to be checked are just quick inspections and not actual wrench turning.

    Re: (offduty)

Sorry to say...but i think you did get hosed... Some of these other prices are too high as well.

At 20 hours,, you are changing oil, filter, lower unit oil and everything else is checks and inspections. Assuming that they do not find trouble (which should come under warranty), I see on the outside two hours plus materials!

If other filters (fuel, water seperator etc) were found bad from contaminated fuel or other issue, then this could drive up this 20 hour service. Otherwise, I would expect much lower pricing.

Dang......these charges are all over the place....sounds like we need to get together on this. I can understand a difference b/c of location and such but all should still be close. I have bought the oil and filter myself for around $100.00, so I don't see paying over $200.00 for everything on the 20 hour check.Maybe I'm just cheap-A**

    Re: (southern_gt)

Southern_gt, Mcnider may be cheaper for you, here in Pensacola Fl. we don't have a Blazer dealer so I have to go to Marine Max they are mainly saltwater.
They charged me $99 for hooking my motor up to the computer called it trouble shooting because I said it was making oil. They found nothing said that half my hours were at idle speed, I didn't ask what idle speed was but I know I haven't played with HDS that much.

    Re: (wthom12)

I don't use McNider Marine so I would'nt know. I still think prices are all over the place....I can't see a dealer charging that much for a 20 hour check and if they did I would have to look elsewhere. I changed the oil &filter in mine myself @ 22 hours. I then carried it to a Yamaha dealer (Brech in Selma) not Blazer dealer when I had a brake in tournaments for check on tsb there were none on mine and they checked everything else. This was done at around 40-42 hours. Like I said maybe I'm just a cheap-A**

I'm using the synthetic oil also

I haven't gotten my bill yet but my friend and I both got our 20 hr checks done last week at hydro tec. I changed the fluids so all it was was just checking and I think they charged him $48.

    Re: (JRBjr)

... They told me I was supossed to change the plugs at the 20 hour too. I think they are confused. I'll just change the oil and gear luby myself and call it a day.

    Re: (djrener)

I did my 20 hour service by myself yesterday. It cost me $75 for EVERYTHING. I found a dealer that sells the filter for $25 and the 4m for $18 a gallon. The HD gear lube was $10 a quart there too.
