Questions about power trim problem

2002 yamaha 225 V-max. Trying to bleed off power trim after replacing fluid reservoir, I accidently left the factory motor bracket in the propped up position. tried to lower the motor and heard a pop. Now the trim motor runs but the outboard will not moves. Does the trim motor drive pin work like a shear pin? What should I look for.

I don't know much about power tilt/trim units but thought I'd jump in since no one else has yet.

I had something similar happen to my 150 VMax a couple of years ago where it worked just fine on the trailer but wouldn't do squat under power. Turned out to be a bad seal in the tilt/trim unit.
