    Fishing Ethics on Ky. Lake

I was out fishing on Ky lake this morning with my brother (who rarely goes fishing) trying to get him some bites. Needless to say I am no pro and was just bouncing around different dropoffs for bites. We stoped on one spot and caught a few short fish, he was having a blast. We had drifted about two cast lengths from the marker when another boat drops in and starts fishing around my marker. I was in to much shock to say anything. My brother asked if this was normal? We just pulled up and picked up the marker and left as they kept fishing it. It ticked him off and I hate that he might think this is how all bass fisherman are.
    Any thoughts?

You took it better than I would have.

I would have trimmed my motor and filled the guys boat.

It seems to happen everywhere now! I mean I'm 34, been fishing tournaments since 1994. You never used to see fishermen do what you see now! It's really amazing!

Sorry about your experience. I've run in to those kind of people out there too. Unfortunately for our society KY Lake does not have a monopoly on jerks. Just remember that there's more good folks out there than jerks.

it's not just ky lake,it happens on them all..if use a marker i don't even put it close to what i'm fishing,i just drop it where i can use it as a refrence..i have people fish my markers and they will be 50ft from anything..also paint them so they aren't so bright..

Ethics on Ky lake an oxymoron in modern day times. Leave your marker bouys in the boat and buy a good nav chip...Learn to triangulate yourself with land features.....or throw decoy marker buoys....if you throw a buoy on something you want to fish, someone will most likely pull in on you and fish it. Had it already once this year.

my buddy was there last week and said that happened to him a few times! He said one guy told him some bs about him not being a local cause his boat is registered in Indiana. It's amazing to me a lake that big someone sees you catch a fish they want to fish there too.

I had that happen to me at the rally back in May. I didn't have a buoy out, but I was fishing the end of a point and catching (as I usually do ) tons of short fish. I was having a great time, when two guys in a wrapped boat pulled up right next to me...I mean probably about 15-20 feet away and started fishing. I asked them, in a somewhat "sarcastic tone," if I was in their way? One guys said no, I was fine! I then said, "Too bad this is such a small lake and there's not many places to fish." He replied that he lived on the lake. I said, "Oh then that gives you a right to be an a$$hole then!" That got no reply, they fished a few minutes then got ready to leave, I did tell them to have a nice day when they left.

Probably how I would have handled it... polite but to the point with a hint of sarcasm.

Green Ranger with an E-TEC, that is funny.

If some one starts to pull in on us, we usually just turn up the trolling motor and head at them to push them back. They usually get the message with out words being said. However, I fish with a couple for BIG guys that will give you choice of a whipp'n or you can leave. So far, nobody has come to blows. I am the guy standing behind the big guys, I got their back ----way back.

Re: Fishing Ethics on Ky. Lake (joebw)

I don't get cut off and moved in on enough. I have so many ideas I want to try and I don't get the chance often enough. I honestly really want to give someone the wash down. I just haven't had a chance and/or I wasn't irritated enough.

i did have a guy in a wrapped boat cut me off good (less than 50yds) a few weeks ago. That pizzed me off but I was in a no-wake zone and couldn't really do much. But I did call a prostaffer that I fish with and he called the boss man. hallumd says the guy has been told to remove his wrap. Douche with the Jack-o-lantern smile cuts me off again and I'm gonna remove his tooth.

    Fiddlefarter -

I don't get cut off that much either. I think the reason I don't, is that I suck at fishing and I am always fishing in spots that nobody else would want. Maybe I should find a new hobby!

It doesn't happen to me that much either...your comment above, gives me an idea why.
