    Impeller, what caused this ?

    Hi guys,

Any idea of what has caused this deformation of my impeller? - running without water?

    Thanks

Yes sir...ran without water. And it doesn't take very long to do that when water isn't flowing thru it. Don't ask me how I know.
Yeah, I messed up a week old impeller one time when I forgot I had turned off the water and removed the hose, and then went back and fired it up.

After that fiasco I would buy the entire kit and replace it all instead of just the impeller.

Mercury says that running the motor for as little as 5 sec without water you can damage your impeller. As stated above, I would go with a new complete water pump and not just the impeller alone.

Have your dealer reference Service Bulletin 2007-06.

More than likely, the driveshaft seal carrier has been forced upwards, bending the impeller plate, and abnormally wearing the hub of the impeller.

Recommended repair techniques are described in the bulletin.
