    1993 75 Mariner Control Problems/Questions

    Serial 0D212803

I went fishing last weekend and the temp was 22 when we put in. I started the engine and let it idle 10 minutes or better. The fast idle throttle worked just fine. I pulled it back to neutral and went to put it in reverse and it was kinda stiff. Got it off trailer and put in forward and would hardly go in. Got it to go and then it was stuck in forward. Thought maybe the cable was just frozen or something but when I got home and pulled it apart this is what I found. The casing had actually cracked.

First off, what do I use to try to find a replacement? There are some numbers on it but nothing specific that I noticed. Do I just go by serial/year model of engine?

Second, would it be acceptable to utalize a used one? Just a quick search online showed these over $200 for new. Would you possibly have one laying around that you took out of a boat?

    Thanks for any help

    Paul:

I'd recommend providing a picture of the control handle and faceplate, as it will allow for a more accurate "identification" of the control (for the most part, the control modules all look similar in that vintage).

This particular style control has been discontinued... and I would strongly encourage you to consider a later-style Gen-2 Control, with Gen-2 cables. Much smoother, and far more reliable design.

You might also want to provide the HULL ID# of the boat this was installed in... along with any other decals or stickers that were applied to the control box (good reason for this).

Thank you for the info Don and here are the additional pics and info you needed.

Boat is a 1993 Fisher Marsh Hawk
    Hull ID# FMCA08GZE293

There were no other stickers or decals on the control. This is it.

    Thanks Paul.

You're going to want to utilize the later-style control, as above suggested.

Sherm @ Sherm's Marine (or I) would be happy to assist you with a new control and Gen-2 cables, including a BBC member discount.

You'll need to know the CABLE LENGTH (often printed on the jacket of the cable... or at least the part number that's printed there).

Email or Phone are the BEST means of contacting the Parts Department(s).
