    Steering Cable coming loose

The TM is a 08' Motorguide Digital 109lb thrust. The steering cable end that hooks into the heel of my foot pedal keeps coming unhooked. The cable isnt broken because I can hook the cable back and itll work fine till it pops loose again. I havent got to look at it closely yet, any ideas on where to start?

Re: Steering Cable coming loose (bassmaster,RN)

Look at the cable drum, the plastic piece that the cables connect to. It slides down on top of the pinion.

Mr. Jones, this happened to me on my last trip. My son was up front and put the cable back, but I want to fix this. What do I look for with the "cable drum" to assess the problem and prevent a re-occurrence ? Is something broken which is allowing the cable to come loose ? My TM is a 24 v Tour 70+ lb thrust.

    Thanks.

The only thing that will cause the cable to come out is slack in the cable. This can be caused from either or both cables not being tensioned right, or the cable drum not "catching" the cables correctly. If it is the back, then adjust the tension out on that cable.

Now that the weather has cleared up I'll take a close look, thanks.
