Single cable to dual cable - steering conversion questions

Swapping motors from Mariner 115 IL6 to Evinrude 150 V6. I know I need to go to dual cable. The motor has the dual cable linkage still attached to it, but I only have single cable on the boat. Not sure if I need a whole new steering pkg, or if I can add a 2nd cable to my current setup? I've never really even looked at the setup/design on any boat's steering. All comments and suggestions are welcomed.

    Thanks!

you'l need a dual cable steering helm for those new cables.

Thanks. Time to look around and see what the damage might be.

You'll also need to change your control box and cables including wiring harness. Trim gauge too.

Go hyd. More money but you will be very pleased. I did this myself on a 1995 Ranger 490 about 15 years ago. No comparison!

Re: Single cable to dual cable - steering conversion questions (ARK Ranger)

Thanks for all the input guys. The evinrude came with a manual powerlift jackplate, power trim, and the linkage is attached for dual cable steering. It also came with new ignition box - trim and everything seem to work great). I think I only lack converting the steering to dual cable (dual cable helm, and cables - unless I might be able to use the one cable that is already attached to my steering that went to the mariner). Basically, I got all the controls with the evinrude motor and the linkage for dual cable steering, just no other steering components. Someone please correct me if I need anything further to make this happen. Otherwise, I appreciate all the input.

    Thanks!

if you could look at the helm the cables come from you could see which type it is, I have been looking for one too so that I can take some play out of my steering and I have found they make several types, but you can get some on ebay if you find out what it looks like.

do yourself a favor and ditch the cable steering altogether, fit some new hydraulic and be done with it forever, after putting up with a twin cable system myself for years (and replaced both cables twice) I ended up going hydraulic and wished I had a long time ago.

don't know about prices over there, but I doubt it will be as dear as you say, by the time you buy a new helm and cables, hydraulic will be not too bad I would reckon!
