What psi and in of vac is used to test the lower unit of my 96 225 efi. How long do you keep the pressure and vac on. Can the test be done without dropping the lower unit. What manipulations need to be done to the lower unit during the test. Thanks

The BEST method of testing the unit is with the gearcase REMOVED (which allows you to "spray" soapy water around various seals and observe for bubbles).
Drain ALL gear lubricant from the gearcase FIRST.
Pressure tests are best performed at VARIOUS pressures.... for instance, 2 psi, 4 psi, 7 psi, 12 psi. (not to exceed 15 psi under any circumstance).
Vaccum tests can be formed at various levels of vaccum, up to 10" hg.
All tests should be capable of holding for 10 minutes without significant pressure or vaccum change, provided the gearcase is in a "stable temperature controlled environment". Be sure to rotate driveshaft, propshaft, and shift-shaft during each test.
