HELP needed===pressure build up in lower unit

I installed a new SEI LU about a month ago, after about 2 hours of break in time I noticed that the prop was very stiff if trying to turn in neutral. fearing the worst, I pulled the upper vent plug and air hissed out and when I removed the plug gear oil blew out of the LU. After this happened now the prop turns very free like it should. It seems as if the lower unit was air locked or something. When I installed it, I added fluid from the lower fill hole and installed the top plug after fluid began to run out. I then removed the pump hose and plugged the bottom.

I have never had this happen before, so I am not sure what is going on here but knew someone here could tell me what might be going on.

How much oil did it take? Capacity is 33 OZ. Did it have a foul odor any chucks in the oil? Shift rod set correctly in neutral?
Contact SEI in the morning and tell them your findings.

the oil does have an odor, but no different than the new oil in the bottles do. I set the shift rod per the manual before installing it and have cable adjusted so the lever is parrallel with block mold mark. I will contact them, just curious if anyone may of run across this before.

as always, thanks for your help Championman
    Thanks, Nate

well I drained the fluid tonight on the LU and the bottom plug was covered in metal shavings. No chunks just shavings. it looked like a porcupine, would this be normal for a new unit with 2 hours or do I need to call for a RMA number from SEI?
    Thanks, Nate

The heat buildup from an internal problem causes huge amounts of pressure. This is reason to call S.E.I. and follow their directions A.S.A.P.
