Trim indicator fluctuating

Between everything else since getting the Black Cat and Lucky 13 back from the shop I noticed something. The trim indicator seems to be fluctuating. During breakin I was keeping an eye on the temp at various RPMs to see how she did, and sometimes the trim would display all on its own when I wasn't touching the trim.

Idling in the last time out I switched the display to trim and it fluctuated from 3.0 to 3.6 with my hand not on the control and the motor wasn't moving. Waddaya think? Loose connection? Wet connection? Bad sensor? Loose sensor? Heck I don't even know where it is.

The problems gotta be at the motor since I get my trim reading from PCM cable via my SC gages.

The trim sensor is located on the PORT SIDE of the swivel bracket (access it with the engine tilted up).

Check the two screws that retain the sensor.

You could also check the connections for the digital trim sensor leads (inside the lower cowling on the starboard/front). Yellow, blue, and black/orange-stripe wires.

Beyond that- more than likely a bad sensor (this sensor was an "add-on" to your engine.... the engine came with an analog trim sensor).

After I posted I walked out to the shop and found it.

Thanks. Have not done that yet, although I did traceback to where they go into the cowling.

How did you knw that? I could have ordered it with either according to Jacos and I accidentally ordered it with an analog one without thinking. I had to buy a new digital one when the shop who hung the motor did their thing. I still have the analog sensor around somewhere.

I guess if its bad I could pull the one off my old 225 for now.

Actually, I knew that your engine came with an analog sensor, simply because ALL ProXS engines are produced at the factory with ANALOG SENDERS.

Ok, but the lady who took my order for the motor specifically asked me if I wanted it with an analog or digital sensor. Maybe she was mistaken in asking. I know I was confused by the question at the time and told her analog. Maybe I should put the analog sensor back on and install a seperate gage.

I'm going to check the connections and then check the sender with a meter first. I'm sure its just some sort of pot. Its the only thing that makes sense since you can trim and trailer with the motor turned off and trim still reads right when you turn it on. Makes me wonder why there is a different one for analog vs digital. If that doesn't work I'll see if the one on my 225 (on the stand is the same) or not. I'm betting loose connection or water in the connection messing up the resistance reading.

Been pretty busy today or I would have already done that.

The "analog" sender is a two-wire variable resistor.

The "digital" sender is a THREE WIRE variable resistor (with a reference voltage return lead).

Good idea to check your other engine.... if it's a three wire sender (or has both a yellow and blue wire), it would work.
