    Rookie question

I have a couple of rods that I love but they don't have a lure holder on the side of it. How hard is it to add one of the small wire lure holders towards the base of the rod? Is there a quick and easy way to do it? Where do I buy the little wire clips? What else do I need and how do I do it? Thanks in advance!

    Dave...

There are number of different types of hook keepers available. I have three listed on my website, listed under construction. If you'd like a Z-Keeper, I sell those for $2 each. They are handcrafted with stainless wire, so they should never rust.

I'm not sure if you have done any wrapping, but I have an informative DVD that addresses multiple facets of rod repair and wrapping a guide is included. It will give you the information that you need to perform a number of repairs on your rods. You can purchase the DVD at http://www.mudhole.com

    Good luck........George

Couldn't a fella just epoxy them on or is a wrap critical ??

The thread is what holds it to the blank and the epoxy holds the thread together basically. There's people doing threadless guides but I'm not sure if they are using some kind of translucent thread so it dissapears under the epoxy or if they're actually not using thread but either way, no disrespect intended, it's way beyond beginner stuff. So I guess the answer would be no, you need the thread.

You could just add the rubber ones like I have on some rods, Or just drill a small hole into the trigger.

The thread is what holds the keeper on. The epoxy adds absolutely NO structural strength...it does NOT glue the keeper/guide to the blank. All the epoxy does is prevent the thread from being disturbed.

The threadless wraps are done with permagloss. Multiple coats of slightly thickened permagloss...

They make a plastic hook keeper that is held on by an o-ring that you can get at Bass Pro Shops..fast and easy. Or this is what I use:[IMG][/IMG]
