    Blank Help

Looking for recommendations for a couple of blanks. These will be my first hand made rods. First I'm looking for a good Spinning rod for Tubes, grubs, shakeyhead etc. Second rod will be a Crankbait rod for Traps and up to 10'deep running cranks. kits would be fine. I have helped build fly rods in the past so it is not all completely new.
Would like to keep under $100 to $125

I like the Rainshadow ISB842 for the spinning rod, it is a 7' medium action. For the cranking, I like the Rainshadow SPG843 E glass or the Seeker BS706SB. All these blanks will be well under the $100 mark.

Same as richard for the spinning rod. For a cranking rod I would recommend the St. Croix 2C70MHM. It is a very good crankbait blank and is lighter than the BS706. If you want to spend a bit more look at the 3C70MHM.

Thanks Dave, but you don't really have to make me a couple of custom rods just because I'm a great guy

agree on the ISB782. if you're using it mostly for snapping tubes, i would step up to the 783.

for the crankbaits, i like the rainshadow CB series. Tray a CB70MH (7' MH). The actions seem light to me (run a cb66m that is more ML than medium action). Same with the cb70m.

    Re: Blank Help (thedude)

I just built a Rainshadow CB70M for traps and shallow cranks and could not be happier with it

    Re: Blank Help (bass57348)

I'll throw in another couple of options...just to keep the stew stirring. I like the St. Croix Avid 3S69MLXF blank for DS / shakey heads and tubes. I just ordered a Batson XSB 822.5 to see how it compares to the St. Croix. It looks like it would be a fun rod!

For cranks, there are a number of great options. If you are building this as a casting rod, consider the Lamiglas Skeet Reese series MB 841E or the Seeker BS706SB. Those are both glass blanks and will ensure that you get most of your fish into the boat. St. Croix and GLoomis both make great composite blanks with me having mostly GLoomis rods. Their CB 845 is good, all-around blank.

    Good luck and have fun........George
