What is the best blank for the money I'm looking for a drop shot rod? Wanting something that compares to a G-Loomis GLX.

IMO you are not going to find a blank to match up to the GLX. The St. Croix SCV line is not bad but the price difference between that blank and the GLX is not that much different. Don't over look the Rainshadow RX7 blank for the money they are a very good blank but not in the same class as the GLX
Depends on what model you want. Send me an email with what you are looking for exactly in a rod and I can send you a quote.

I would suggest a few different blanks for DS personally. If you can find one a Shikari P7000 or IP7000 are great DS rods. Another option is the St.Croix 3S69MLXF. I personally just do not feel there is enough difference in these blanks to shell out for a GLX.
I just had a friend build me one on the 3S69MLXF and it is nice but I have not fished it yet.

The best blank depends on your situation. If you have open water, then the ATC / P 7000 would be my suggestion. Shikari no longer exists, but ATC (Advanced Tubular Composites) purchased the company and are continuing to build these blanks. They have a very soft tip which is a real plus when not wanting the fish to know that you are up there!
They are a lower modulus blank, making them more durable than the GLX...in "my" opinion. It has a hinged action (X-Fast), so you can't dead lift a 3# fish into the boat without expecting the blank to break at the hinged section. I know...been there...done that!
My next choice is the ATC P 701 which has a bit more of a parabolic action. the other blank mentioned such as the St. Croix Avid or LT / 3S69MLXF would be a great choice for deep water or when the wind is blowing and you need to use a heavier sinker. It is also a great blank for shakey heads and split shotting.
Hope that helps.......George
