Solid alarm. Restart went away. 2006 225 PRO XS

Weather was extremely hot this weekend. I idled through a no wake zone. I saw a buddy fishing a point and stop to talk for a minute. When I restarted the boat the alarm was a solid beep. I shut the boat off and restarted. No further alarm. Did the alarm go off because of heat that was generated after I shut the boat off and restarted it within about 1 minute.

The second thing it did that was not normal was I had the boat die on me on two occasions at start up. Fire right up and die when put in gear. Ran fine the rest of day. Possible heat related also? Or is this the issue that everyone has been experiencing with fuel and spark plug gap. It does have the low RPM skip but has had it since new. I do run quickcleen in every tank since new.

    Thanks, Rich

Make sure you prime the bulb after a short stint...it seems as though the fuel {ethanol} is causing "heat-soak / vapor lock" issues. Priming the system seems to help.......

    +1

Additionally, do not "key up" a warm engine until you intend to start it. In other words, after you finish talking to your buddy, turn the key on and start the engine within 5 seconds (don't wait 30 seconds to a couple minutes with the key on). This is also a common "error".

Of course, you should always have your water pump impeller replaced and thermostats checked/inspected at least once every two years or 100 hours, whichever comes first.

I've heard of ethanol blended (90/10) fuels causing heat soaking. I always had problems with my 225ProXS up in Chicago after long idles, shut it down fish 10-15 min start it up and it was heat soaked. I wish I would've known about the bulb trick.

You'll problably hate to hear this, but after start up if was hot, I would just idle at a quick pace and the cooler water would cool it off quick.

Down here in TX they are trying to pass a law to mandate blended fuels to help farmers. It's all crap in my eyes.

Sounds like you found your own "solution" by running low rpm until things cooled down. The primary issue is that the fuel "boils & vaporizes" under low pressure conditions in the "inlet" side of the fuel system (most people think of it as vaccum rather than low pressure).

Once the fuel vaporizes, the fuel pumps are unable to process the vapor (they are intended to pump liquid... they will eventually purge some vapor, but often not before the engine "runs out of fuel and dies").

I don't bother telling folks to let their motor run low rpm for 3-5 minutes... mainly because I can't get a lot of them to take 10 seconds to pump the primer bulb... let alone "putz" around for 5 minutes so it cools off!

A combination of pumping the primer bulb AND allowing the engine temperature to stabilize (by running low rpm for a few minutes) is "as close to a perfect scenario" as we've come up with for these new fuels!

Thanks for all the helpful information.

I will try that primer bulb trick and let you know how it goes.
