    Pocahontas State park

I will be camping there this weekend. Does anyone know the closest boat ramp to the James from there? I am considering coming back home this evening and getting my boat. Thanks for any help.

If you have a bass boat dutch gap is going to be the closest. Probably 15-20min from there. If you are talking about floating the upper james with a jon boat I can't help you there.

that is the closes ramp, but i would add 5-10 min to that and go out of hopewell ramp. get on rt 10 and head east toward hopwell, cross the brige and very first right, (can see ramp from bridge). I dont like dutch gap very much, those buzzards eat every piece of wipers/wetherstripping you got. fish are bitting on the james

    Re: Pocahontas State park (AKFerzy7)

Well I left before I was able to read the last two post. I went to Dutch Gap for my first and very last time. I have never seen such a cluster in all my life. I was trying to leave about 1:00pm a jet ski had one ramp blocked, a white boat was parked on the side of the ramp with owner no where in site, I parked in one ramp. Get my truck and get in line and walk down ask them to pull over so we( the guy with the jet ski) can get our mess out of the way and open up two spots and you thought I wanted their first born. Finnally one of the guys waiting in line realized what I was trying to do and got everyone to move over.

I went to Osbourne Landing Sunday morning.

Fishing was awsome. I was in the pocket across from Dominion Power 17.5" was the biggest I caught but still fun.

    Thnaks for all the help.

Good deal, sounds like you were in Meades Pit. Usually pretty good fishing in there. I would have told you to either go to Osbourne or Hopewell. I hate Dutch Gap - especially on weekends. The buzzards are always a problem there too.
    I'd Rather be Fishing
