    Snakehead help!

Hi! I'm a brand new member but have been reading all of your posts for w hill and thought this would be a great place to ask for advice.... I have been an avid bass/striper/ whatever is in and biting fisherman for years, but over the past few months have been trying to target snakehead.
I have read forums, watched videos from multiple countries in Asia and fished potomac creek, aquia, and dogie to no avail! I have used buzz baits, gulp frogs, top water frogs, June bugs... Etc... I am following all of the "rules" but have not gotten so much as a bite (from snakehead, I've landed some pretty nice bass which is never a bad thing)...
I was wondering if they have been fished out, or if I am missing something... Maybe I am not getting far enough into the weed patches?
I am at a loss, any sightings or tips would be incredibly appreciated... I'm heading out Wednesday afternoon, persistence will pay off :)

    Re: Snakehead help! (Cdwarner)

I caught a 6-7lbr this Saturday just inside of Powell Creek .There were a couple roaming the first 2 pad patches just after you go through the bridge on the right. The snakeheads I have caught have all been super shallow. My suggestion is to put the trolling motor on high and look for them busting bait. They make a racket when they are chasing prey. They are definitely out there from one end of the river to the other now. Top water frogs, spinnerbaits, jigs.....they will eat anything.

little hunting creek is one of the better spots to get on them. they like to burrow down on mud flats, try rippin a buzzbait , chatterbait or swim jig right over them . I have caught most of mine in Mattwoman Creek but there is a ton in LHC that live there full time. They love frogs too. I avoid them usually, they take alot of time to deal with and can waste alot of your time in a tournament too

    Re: (Cdwarner)

I have caught one on each of my past two trips - throw a frog long enough and you will catch one
the one i caught yesterday was on a buzz bait.

now catfish - after yesterday I am a pro - they absolutely love a black and blue chatterbait - had a 5 fish 40lb limit of them yesterday - biggest one was 20lbs

Larry congrats on doubling your normal limit yesterday

I have had a field day in Mallows Bay on 10 to 12 pound catfish on a baby minus one. And when I've fished for catfish on purpose in the past , I could never catch as many as when Im fishin for bass.

here's the only pic I have, was the first one I ever caught spring 2010 on the Potomac. Just a small one but still was fun to catch at the time. If they werent so hard on lures and werent so slimey then it wouldnt bother me . But they are a royal pain in the azz

I know they will not leave my plastic swimbaits alone. My filet knife gets a work out ripping guts open.

Go into any of the creeks and fish marsh banks. Especially if there is a little drain coming out of the marsh. Fish really shallow in areas where pads are in front of the marsh. Even behind the pads against the marsh. Throw frogs or any topwater for that matter and soon enough you`ll hang one. It`s hard to remember a trip when I have NOT caught one the last two years.

The no-wake zone of Aquia has lots of them. Throw a frog in the pads at high tide.

looks like that catfish could almost swallow that big snakehead whole. A time will come when catching 15 pound snakeheads is common, they are growing so fast. I bet it put up the fight of a lifetime
