    90hp E-tec versus 90hp yamaha 4 stroke for pontoon

I posted on yammie board also.

I am buying a new pontoon boat and had my mind made up on a yamaha, the dealer started discussing e-tec.

So, my question is should i go etec? Can folks explain some differences. I know the 4 stroke is heavier, etc. But I keep "hearing" the yamaha maintenance is $$$.

I have a honda 4 stroke for fishing and love it. Do the maintenance myself.

    Thank you.

Wow...tough call. I know if we were talking a little Fiberglass or Tin basser I would no doubt go with the ETEC.

The Yammie is a 4 cyl which mught make it more suitable for plowing a loaded pontoon boat through the water. Thats just an asumption. Never been on a pontoon with either motor.

The dealer selling the ETEC an authorized Evinrude dealer with a good tech??? If so I would opt for the ETEC. If you have experience maintaining the 4 strokes, then it would be your pick. I still believe the 2 stoke will have more grunt.....JMHO

    Jay,
It is service after the sale. Take a ride over to Anderson and talk to Randy Lee at Lee's marine on Whitehall rd in Anderson. He is a Platinum Dealer and sells pontoon boats. He has a few left overs and I'm sure he can work you a good deal. His service department is fully E-tec trained. He is just off Highway 24 in Anderson just past Strickland's.

if you already own a Honda, why not get another one, that way you already know a bit about it, and parts can be had for both motors at the same place.
