The little plastic cam for the trim sending unit on my motor broke recently. I got the replacement part at my dealer and tried to install it a few days ago. I have cable steering and I can't tighten the philips screw down with the cam in the proper allignment because the steering braket is in the way. I am reluctant to loosen anything related to steering. Am I missing something or is this my only option?
Would trimming the engine up or down make a difference? Another thought would be to use a right-angle phillips screwdriver.
Is it the metal cam, and are you mounting it where the tightening screw is below the tube, (not above the tube) ? They're easy to mount upside down

No because the bracket tilts with the motor. I tried a right angle screw driver but there isn't enough room between the bracket and the screw head.

The one that came off and the replacement are black plastic. I am almost certain that I put the new one on the same way the old one came off. The screw is facing forward toward the trolling motor. I'll try to get a quick picture.
My original was plastic and I thought I ordered a plastic replacement, but got a metal one that I like better.

Can you position it to access the screw, tighten it as much as possible and still move it, then move it into position?

That's what I did originally. It held position for one trip then started rotating.

It's not the sensor, it's the part that connects with the sensor. The sensor works fine. I turned on the key and moved it by hand, the gauge worked as I moved the sensor. Hopefully, I can get just that piece.
Does anyone have a picture of what this thing looks like and exactly where it's located? My trim gauge stopped working and I can't seem to locate this bracket...I have hydraulic steering on my OX66 250

The replacement part is metal and costs about $13 bucks. Supposed to pick it up today.
Here is the part and part number. They call it a "kit" because it includes a screw.

i just installed the metal one and the screw head needs to be on the top of the round shaft and not on the bottom as these photos show. That is why they did not have the clearance to easily tighten it.
I set mine with trim at top and then continued to raise motor until screwdriver went right in and then i tightened the screw.
If you set the trigger at the bottom you will fight everything.
Do not tighten the clamp all the way down as you may need to make small movements each time to dial your trim gauge in.

Do you mean you put the little metal trigger below or above the pivoting indicator? I am fighting this myself.
It looks like to me that the trim is so sensitive that it only moves a few inches for it to go from no trim to fully trimmed. Is it just me? I would think you would want it all the way trimmed down for the hole shot, but because the adjustment is so fine you could keep raising your motor well past fully trimmed and keep gaining speed. Kind of negates the need for the gauge and I want mine to work so I know right where to trim to when I am trying to get to my peek performance.

I mounted mine with the screw under facing forward and trigger under the indicator. Adjusted it in the driveway so that in reads all the way down with the motor all the way down. Used a right angle screw driver to tighten. Takes patience.
