    Restoration Question

Hey guys, I've enjoyed looking through all the projects on here. I am about to attempt a pretty big project myself and I was wondering if you know of any websites or books that could help through the process. I'm fairly mechanical and good with woodwork, but this is my first boat and I want to do things right. I'm going to replace the floor, maybe some stringers, new carpet and possibly rewire what I can. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Re: Restoration Question (JMGriffin8)

While a book may help, you can get all the info you want here...free....all you have to do is read. You may not find ALL the info you need, but I guarantee you that the book wont be 100% either. There are too many boats with different designs to answer your questions in a book. I came here for ideas read and searched and read some more and the next thing you know I feel confident enough to tackle a relid/recarpet job. Not only that if I get in a bind I have all of this experience literally at my finger tips...all for the asking.

I am not trying to tell you not to look for a book or stop seeking knowledge on the subject but reading through this board you will learn things that you didnt think of, that you didnt think you needed to know.....these are real world experiences and I find it awesome that people help so freely. Some document every step and post about it like it is an instruction manual. Some ask questions, most answer with experience ranging from "never did it before" to "do it everyday".

And while I am in the middle of a semi undocumented job, I want to personally thank everyone that has posted/asked/answered here. I will do my best to show my work off when its done, not to brag....but to give back.

    Thanks...

    Mini

I agree with MINI, this site has given me more information than a book can give because several people will give their opinion instead of just one author. Also most posts are from people who have learned from others and that incorporates a lot of experience. Good luck!

I agree too. Everyone on here is very helpful!!
What is the boat? I have a few wiring diagrams for some of the Stratos that I can email anyone that needs them.

    Re: Restoration Question (JMGriffin8)

Hey Mike .. dont pay someone to do this work .. you can do it your self .. and Im here local if you need help.. If you do it right your self you wont have to guess if someone did what you paid them to do .. and wonder if it was right you will know for sure it was right!

But there is tons of free help on here besides me !

Mike just lives down the road from me . he only asked me who he should take it to to get the boat fixed.. never asked for help doing it him self .. and since I no longer do this for money . Im back to working on computers .. after a 15 month lay off .. Id be happy to give you all the help you could ever ask for

But I did recommend C and O to Mike for the best Glass work besides me LOL .. honestly C and O does kick ass work Ive seen many many of examples of the fiberglass shop work at C and O I would recommend them to any one. And I dont recommend work to just anyone!
