Looking into maybe buying a skeeter but I have a few questions.

Hey guys, I am currently selling my 98 Sprint 277 with a 150 Xr6 Merc. I have been looking at a new TR 18 and 19 Triton at my local dealer lately, and they just got in an 06 Skeeter ZX190 that is a pretty clean looking boat. I am really wanting a 19 foot boat because an 18 is too close to the size I have right now and my Sprint is an awesome boat I'm just looking for something a little bigger. Any ways the ZX190 has a 150 Vmax OX66, I don't know much about Yammers as I have always ran Mercs. Another thing is how do 190's handle rough water as my primary lake is Table Rock and it can get treacherous. The 190 probably wont run any faster than my Sprint as I was getting mid 60's under light load, and high 50's under full tournament load and full tanks. How is the quality of a Skeeter? Thanks Guys.

My tourney partner has the same boat and engine but is a couple years older. His handles really well but my ZX225 of course runs better given it's size. The 150 will get you 60mph perhaps slightly more in perfect conditions. The ox66 is an EFI motor but they're known to be bulletproof.

What sort of price are they asking for it that's what it boils down to? There's some excellent deals on ZX225's out there although let's face it a 150 (even an efi) will be cheaper to run.

They're wanting 18,900 for it but there is no way I'd give them that the boat is too plain jane looking, in the looks department I'd keep mine. I am in the market for an 18 or 19 foot boat.

It sounds like a ZX200 would be a better choice then. It'd be a little bigger, faster, etc..

Matt are you looking @ boats at Show Me? I know they carry both Tritons and Skeeters.
I've never owned Tritons I think they are a boat you have to learn how to drive, I believe they are a good quality though. As far as the Skeeter my opinion it will be the most comfortable and easier to drive. You need to tell Shane you want to test drive both on the same day on the same lake so you can get a feel for both.

As far as rough water I think the Skeeter will be the better of the 2. I have a 20fter and I've had days on T Rock I wished I had a larger one

It all boils down to the Ford - Chevy argument, best to ride and decide.

I am looking at the boats at Sport Boats USA in Ozark, MO. Ozark is where I live now, that is good input I would really like to get both of the boats on the water. The Skeeter is an 06 and the Tritons are brand new so theres a difference in the get go. The problem with the Skeeter is it is just a white and gray boat no metal flake, standard chrome steel wheels and no brakes, and a single console which is what I have now and I am wanting a dual preferably. The Skeeter is something I would buy instead of a new boat if I could get them to the right price. I understand the Chevy and Ford thing, as everyone loves their bass boats and rightly so, if Sprint was still around I'd order up a new 19 footer bar nunn. They all have their strengths and weaknesses it just boils down to whatever you like.

Re: Looking into maybe buying a skeeter but I ... (SkeeterJohn)

I was just in the same situation as you a couple months back........I looked at the Tritons and Skeeters and same models the TR196 and also stratos and rangers.....I looked at a million boats.....I was coming out of a Ranger 375v an 18 footer.......

I went with a 2004 ZX190 150hp Ox66.......due to the RIDE, the compartment setups, size of the front deck.......I fished 3 people out of the boat the other day and 2 on the front deck easily and I am 6'4 250lbs....

The ride of the skeeter will be better than the triton, hands down.....ever heard of chine walking well Tritons are the king of, partly due to why they are alos less expensive and not nearly as quality of a build...... the skeeter is a better boat overall, go drive both and put them to the test and you will see that fast.

I got my skeeter with very low hours on the engine and a Hummingbird 997 and 898 with side imaging and 2 gps pucks and interlinked bran new trolling motor on it and the old one he gave me which I resold for 400. I paid 15,500 for the boat, look up in the pictures thread on the last page and you will see it looks and runs bran new.

All in all, regardless of me owning a skeeter currently, from the 6 months of research I did on all the major brands and models in the 18 and 19 foot range, this boat is very hard to beat and will also have a higher resale value.......hope this helps

Re: Looking into maybe buying a skeeter but I ... (98Sprint277)

    Sprint .... I came out of a 19'3" Ranger w/ 200 to my 18'5" TZX 190 Skeeter w/ 175 HPDI.

The rough water ride of the 2 boats is not much different .... meaning a good thing. When it gets really rough (white caps and 3'ers) ALL boats will be slowing down .... or atleast any boat with my azz in it will.

The ZX190 fishes really big for a 18' boat. I've got just as much storage space in it as I did in my 19' Ranger. I'd say the stability while fishing is far superior in the Skeeter over the Triton and is very comparable to my old Ranger.

The 150 Yamaha's are GREAT motors, EFI, carb'ed, 4 stroke, and HPDI (as long as maintenance is kept up). They are/were typically bulletproof motors.

I can tell you that a ZX 190 w/ 175 will run anywhere between 63-68mph depending on your load, prop, and prop height.

It almost sounds like you're trying to put a square peg in a round hole .... something about this boat you're just not liking ..... with that fact that it's basically what you've already got, or the colors are not attactive to you.

For that kind of money, I'd keep looking for one that you like the colors on ..... AND I'd find one that has a 175 on it.

I have a TZX 190 basically the same boat, and I absolutely love it. I am definitely biased, but I think Skeeter makes the best looking, best running, and fishing boat around.

Re: Looking into maybe buying a skeeter but I ... (98Sprint277)

Skeeters are Great boats. I own a 20i and can tell you its extermely nice. Nice layout, not quite as much storage space as the Tritons but still enough to put everything in and the kitchen sink. The Tritons will walk unless your looking at an X2, X3, or XS (they do not have the "Vortex" hull design) but they are slower then the "Vortex" hull desinged Tritons. The Tr18 is a squirrel at WOT. The 196 is not quite as bad but will defintely walk on ya and you will have to drive it (this takes seat time to master). I had the Tr18 and the 196 and the Tr20x HP all have the quick "Vortex" hull design which makes it walk at high speeds. The bigger you go the easier they are to handle. The trade off between the "Vortex" hull designed Triton and Skeeter is the speed (the X2, X3, and XS are similiar in speed with the Skeeter). The Tr196 w/200 Opti I could consistently get to 71-2mph with 2 and a tourney load. The Tr18 was a 63-4 mph boat with the 150Opti. But personally, I like the Skeeter better as the rod lockers are big and easy to get rods in and out of. I like the design of the dash better and I like the latches better to get into the storage compartments. At rest the Skeeter is much more stable then any of my Tritons that I previously owned which makes fishing a pleasure. Rough water ride for me is close. It just depends on the driver and what kind of water your in. I personally feel both our quality designed boats. But everybody has their opinion. I am pro Skeeter but If your interested in a 19foot Triton I know where there is a Top condition 2005 Tr196 in Kimberling City with a 200 opti, low hours, loaded with tandem trailer and custom colors.

Superblackeagle can you get me the info on that Triton, and yeah i am just shopping right now and am not biased in any way to one brand. But you are right the colors of it have me off, it is in pretty good shape but not for the money.
