Couple of questions about 171 DC I'll be buying soon.

OK so I should be picking up my new (to me ) Champ in just a few days, and I had a couple questions.

If you look at the pic here, the pro seat and the regular seat that are laying on the back deck have a square base at the bottom of the poles. How does that work? I've owned a lot of bass boats but have never seen one like that. Looking at the deck of the boat, I don't understand how they would work, but it's obvious these seats are for this boat.

My second question is this- the steering seemed a little tight, but I couldn't be sure, it was 20 degrees out when I checked it out. When I go out for a water test and if I determine the steering cable probably needs replaced, is that a tough job on this boat? I know some steering cable jobs are relatively easy DIY jobs, and sometimes it can require removing the outboard which for me would mean it's not DIY. I need to factor in the cost of this when I make a final offer on the boat. Probably a good chance it won't need a cable, but I'm just trying to think of everything.

    Thanks folks!!

I would think the cable might just need to be lubricated. Not sure without seeing it.

I assume it is not hydraulic steering. That system is wonderful, but it's biggest drawback is that you never know where the steering wheel will end up w/respect to the motor. In my boat it always is covering the GPS with a spoke on the wheel.

If there is serious issues with the boats steering, it could be a several hundred dollar repair. Tread carefully. I would think it would be still DIY, but the parts are not cheap.

The folks you are getting the boat from should be able to explain the workings of the seat pedestals...

Board sponsor and one great Champion dealer, Boater's Marine, is in Monroe, NC...If you run into anything you think you need assistance with, check with owner Jon Lilley. Tell him I sent you!

    Congrats on your Champion!!!!

The seat posts are what we call Slide-N-Lock system. Should be a flip up style base on the decks. Lift up the flap, and angle your post in, it will drop and then you "slide" in and the flap will flip back down, "locking' it in. Thats about it with them.
Personally. I like the system as it comes off as being Non-cookie cutter type. I think I sent you a IM a few days ago re: this issue and your seats. Check them and see if they got thru.
