Re: Fast strike 150 diff over standard 150 (Lockjaw)

From a article in BASS & Walley magazine

The Intruder and FastStrike 150s and 175s were designated as “high-performance” outboards, and featured louvered cowlings, harder engine mounts, and enhanced tuning compared to OMC’s standard 150/175 models. Aimed squarely at the high-performance bass boat market, the Eagles found a welcome roost.

So is it safe to say that this is the case of the GT & XP's ?

I hate that, enhanced tuning tells me nothing. That is what they say about the Etec ho motors. Why can't they just say?

Mine has a louvered cowling. I am going to see about getting solid mounts for it. I think that shouldn't be a problem.

It would just be nice to know exactly what is different.

    EL or GL?

This could be answered with your model number but the difference is mute, both motors on the same boat will perform about the same.

The faststrikes also had enhanced port timing for better high rpm performance. My 95 faststrike has heads that the part# end in 311. Yes they put 175 heads on em too.

    Mine is an EL.

It just seems to me that someone ought to be able to say exactly what the differences are. I know a 150 is a 150, give or take 10%.

You know, like it has slightly less compression, smaller carbs, something.

Your best bet is to go to the parts diagrams and compare each item between the 2 models and also with the 175hp version.

Here is the link for you:

    http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/...=true

Also check out the factory brochures on LiquidNirvana's web site and you can see what the factory said about the two models.

Re: Fast strike 150 diff over standard 150 (SEAHORSE)

I just went through the brochures from 1991-96 and cant seem to find anything other than maybe you get a SS prop. No * that say factory tuned like the new ones. Did see a * that has the Intruder/fastrike with a SS turning arm?

I do recall th e 1991 150 HP information and recall of the F/S due to too much power. Over the 10% rule. Looks like they detuned it with a differnet set of heads probably a bit more cc's so a blittle less compression.

Re: Fast strike 150 diff over standard 150 (SEAHORSE)

I looked at his site, it looks like the main difference is a stainless prop, graphics, and a slightly different looking cowl.

So, lets ask a slightly different question. What was the main difference in the early Fast strikes that caused a ruckus about them making more power? In other words, what did they do to "detune" them?

I would like to make sure I have a very healthy 150, and I know ya'll don't discuss modding, but if it is some simple change, like timing, or using an early model head, then that would be cool.
