I'm looking to purchase a boat with a 05 250 HPDI with only 50 original hours on it. Any big problems with these motors?

Oil consumption is very heavy. Filter maintenance is imperative and expensive if you have to pay someone to do it, if you can do it yourself it's not so bad. It seems from posts here that it's around $500 to change all the filters at a shop, but that really depends on where you live in the country. There are updates to that engine so call Yamaha customer service, or a dealer, with the engine info and they can tell you if the updates have been done.
How about performance and reliability?
Both are very good if you keep the fuel system clean and free from obstruction. If you buy the rig, check the fuel line that feeds the engine. If it is gray w/ a red stripe, change it out. It breaks down with ethanol.
Do you normally run Seafoam or another type additive? Also, what type 2 cycle oil do you use? Do you necessarly need to run the Yamalube or is Pennzoil okay?
I used to run Seafoam, until i found it it is full of alcohol. I'm using Ring Free and Stabil. As to oil, which brand is better is just a cat fight and matter of opinion. You certainly do not have to run Yamalube. Use a premuim oil. I run Purple Royal.
