One engine when idling, tach jumps between 600 and 800 rpm, occasionally stutters when putting in gear when idle drops below 500 where it usually idles in gear. Decarbed the engine and put in new plugs but no change. Runs great otherwise. Any ideas? Thanks.
Your motor is idling on four cylinders like it is supposed to. That gives it a rougher idle. When you put it in gear, it hits on all six cylinders.

Yes, I have two engines and only one is doing this. Normally they idle at 600 RPM's and I am aware they idle on 4 cylinders. This is not the normal idle. The engine keeps jumping up and down between 600 and 800 rpms and won't settle down. It runs fine but something is not quite right.
It could be any one of a few problems. I'd try checking the fuel system for leaks first.

Ok. I looked at that wrong. I thought you were saying you only have one engine.

I cleaned the filter on the vst tank and now it idles smoothly. Have had problems with the filter before, but never affected idle.
