    200 johnson question anyone

    vj200slens
my engine feels like it is running out of gas at wot it runs really strong for about 15 seconds then drops off 3to5hundred rpm then you can feel it surging every 10-15 seconds for just a second or two . while it was doing this today i pushed the primer and it didnt make any difference
when i stop i have to squezze the new BRP bulb 3 times to get it back firm. it isnt collapsing the bulb and a havent gotten any alarms.
    new plugs and wires @.35
    good gas
    new fuel line and bulb
    decarbedw/engine tuner
    new fuel filter

when i stop the boat and try to go again it wont plane and is obviously missing then if i rev it up out of gear several times(smokes like crazy) and hit it it will plane quickly and start running good again for 10-15 seconds and the problem will reoccur.
it almost feels like the fuel pump isnt keeping up at wot

    Do this,
Check all connections on the fuel line for tightness, both into the motor and from the OMS out to the carbs. Next prime the bulb with the cover off and the air box off the motor and open the drain plugs on the carbs one at a time NO SCAHMOKIN, and purge any air from the system. Also check for any fuel leaks on hoses coming into the OMS and going out including the primer system and the fuel tree. Flush the belly pans with H20 to clear out any fuel. Suprised no restriction alarm sounds over 5K. Make sure you have a good 3/8" supply hose to the motor.

Could be some trash behind one of the needles.... OR could be float...If you pump the bulb and it gets tight with no leak by, that usually indicates the needles are seating correctly. Have you replaced the anti-syhpon valve on the gas tank? Have seen them act up and cause problems as well...

hey while i am pumping the ball tight i think i can hear fuel slipping through one of the jets (like a faint wistle) on one carb top one on left side . no anti syphon valves

Trim the motor level, or slightly below level and re-prime see it that has any differecence. You will hear the fuel go through all the time when you prime the bulb. You may have a sticky float, drain that bowl, and re-prime. Flush with H20. If that don't work pull all the drain plug on the carbs use a long #5 flat blade screwdriver and unscrew the HS jets. With everything out pump the bulb about 10 times. Start at the top 2 carbs and work your way down installing the jets and drain plugs, all the while priming the bulb. DO NOT over thighten the HS jets in the bowls. FLUSH with H20 on completion and try again.

You need to check the ignition when the motor is warm, this can be done by removing the spark plugs, stick them back in the wires, lay them against the head....DO NOT HOLD THEM, crank the motor and see if all have a nice baby blue spark.

cm fuel lines all look ok didnt find and leaks when sqeezing the bulb (pretty hard) pulled all the jets 4 X62d 2X65d and performed the method you described i also caught the gas as it was coming out and i did find a very little bit of trash but it was small . i am going to go out and try rustys spark test and if that looks ok i am going to go run it and see if its fixed.

is it normal for gas to run back out of the carb throats when the engine is trimmed all the way up ?

could the spark dwell adjustment have anything to do with my problem .. i noticed on the ?timing advance arm there is a plastic sleeve that a metal rod runs through and it feels like the rod is spring loaded through the plastic piece .it is threaded on the end and the plastic cap is missing . at wot the timing advance goes to the rubber stopper and returns back when in nuetral

One las thing to try, swap the coil between #2 and #5 and retry spark test. If no good sounds like PP. CM
